Description

The notice of intent to sole source this requirement is for the procurement of Occupational and Environmental Medicine support for the Baltimore site of the Airborne Hazards and Burn Pit Center of Excellence Post Deployment Cardiopulmonary Evaluation Network (PDCEN) project funded by the New Jersey War Related Illness and Injury Study Center. The PDCEN is tasked by congress through Public Law 112-260 with examining the over 190,000 Veterans who have reported respiratory diagnoses, including asthma, interstitial lung disease, COPD, constrictive bronchiolitis, and sleep apnea, and have registered on the VA Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry. As part of this nationwide project, the NJ WRIISC has established the PDCEN at VA sites in Ann Arbor, Baltimore, Eastern Colorado, and San Francisco to help assess the pulmonary function of Veterans who have reported these diagnoses and to collect comparable data in the investigation of what may have contributed to the respiratory conditions of Veterans deployed near burn pits. The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, will provide support to the Baltimore site of the NJ WRIISC PDCEN by conducting environmental exposure exams. The examinations will be performed by physicians credentialed to practice in the VA Maryland Health Care system. The work will be performed in the PDCEN Pulmonary Functional Testing laboratory of the Baltimore site, located within the metabolic testing space of the Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC) at Baltimore VA Medical Center. The Contracting Officer responsible for this acquisition has been identified above. For any additional questions or concerns, please email only at cassie.white@va.gov
