Description

? APPENDIX 1: Scope of Work General Scope of Work. The Microwave Ablation System with thermosphere technology will replace the current unit which according with the last evaluation by Biomedical Service has reached end of life and no longer are supported by manufacturer. Our RF system is an outdated technology and was taken off the market as well as technical support and maintenances. VACHS Radiology Service is looking forward to get better more reliable equipment such as state of the art microwave system in order to increase reliability, decrease mortality and morbidity and to offer state of the art treatments for our veterans. Description of Service. In terms of ablation therapies, the radiofrequency were the only available I 0 years ago for treatment of hepatic and renal malignancies, followed by cryotherapy and nowadays microwave technology. The system must have the capabilities of spherical ablation zone and predictable ablation zone: Thermal field and wavelength energy controls to avoid adjacent organs and structures injury, all energy should be in-phase for predictability. The system must have different antenna lengths with high visibility under CT or US guidance and internally cooled antenna for maximizing energy penetration. Warranty will not begin until the day of first successful technical use which must occur after receipt of manuals and user training. On site user training has to be offered before initial use of this equipment. It is highly desirable that the vendor certifies the competency of all users. Special Work Requirements: 1. Only system on the market with Thermosphere Technology or equivalent components will be considered it must have the following: a. Field Control-Design of the antenna to allow a spherical ablation field. b. Thermal Control that eliminates heating along the shaft of the antenna (No comet/hot dog shaped ablation zones as well as prevents skin burns). c. Wavelength Control-Ability to maintain a spherical ablation field throughout the entire ablation cycle despite changes in tissue impedance or tissue types. 2. System must work on a 30 cm length antenna 3. System must offers ex-vivo and in-vivo data in their IFU 4. Thermosphere technology antennas designed to create a spherical ablation zone and the bum on the short axis(s) must be the same as the bum on the long axis. 5. Antenna must be tune tuned to saline, versus the liver 6. The system must have a single stick antenna that relies on the active heating zone for ablation vs active & passive zones. Specs to be provided: 1. IFU that contains ex-vivo and in-vivo data 2. Single stick system 3. Thermosphere technology 4. 30 cm antenna 5. Antenna that is tuned to saline 6. Antenna
