Contract Awards in SAM.gov

Legacy Website FPDS website logo

GSA continues to create a more modern and unified user experience for the entities that want to do business or currently are doing business with the federal award community while reducing costs for the government and the taxpayer.

The Federal Procurement Data System’s (FPDS.gov) capabilities will transition to SAM.gov on an incremental basis to make way for a modernized procurement data system within SAM.gov

ezSearch

GSA has completed the transition of ezSearch functionalities to SAM.gov.  While contract award searching exists in both SAM.gov and FPDS.gov at this time, users should be utilizing SAM.gov as it is now the authoritative source.  The contract award search function in SAM.gov allows users to search federal procurement data and to filter by keyword, agency, and legal business name.  Results are available to anyone, including contractors, agencies, and the public.

The federal government procurement data found in SAM.gov’s search is mostly used for policy and trend analysis.  Search results contain publicly available information about all unclassified contract actions exceeding the micro-purchase threshold and any modifications to those actions that change previously reported data, regardless of dollar value.

With the transition of ezSearch into SAM.gov, we also made some improvements to the functionality, including:

  • Creating effective navigation between Contract Opportunities, Contract Awards and Subaward Reporting domains.

  • Offering the search filters that are widely used.

  • Developing Pickers for search filters, the functionality that does not exist in FPDS.gov.

  • Developing search filters to be more intuitive and to allow partial searches which do not exist in FPDS.gov.

Atom Feed

ATOM Feed will be replaced with the SAM.gov Contract Awards API in open.gsa.gov. Consumers should begin using the open.gsa API today to test and update their consumption methods as necessary. There’s no need to wait.

Contract data reports (the reporting function of FPDS.gov) was integrated into SAM.gov in October of 2020. The migration of contract awards data and search capabilities integration started as a soft launch in July 2025 as the next step in the modernization process. The remaining functions of FPDS.gov will be integrated into SAM.gov in the near future.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are you making these changes to FPDS.gov?
    • We began integrating FPDS.gov into SAM.gov back in 2020.
  • What are the main changes happening in July?
    • FPDS ezSearch was made available in SAM.gov in July 2025 as a soft launch in an effort to help users get used to searching for contract information in SAM.gov.  While the data in both systems are identical SAM.gov is now the authoritative source of information until further notice.
  • Why wasn’t there more advanced notice of these changes?
    • All of the changes to IAE systems are done in an iterative manner.  FPDS.gov modernization has been planned for a long time; GSA feels that now is the right time to make it happen.  This also is being done in a phased concurrent roll out which negates the need for extensive advanced notice.
  • What is next for FPDS.gov?
    • We will eventually be retiring the system with the goal of moving all public facing functions of FPDS.gov to SAM.gov.Stay tuned here or sign up for update notices from SAM.gov/IAE Interact for more information.
