PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Located within the Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge near Lake Tewaukon in SE corner of North Dakota, this project is to provide safe routes for recreationists and access to the Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge. The existing routes have narrow bridges in poor condition that have been overtopped during recent flood events. Sargent County and Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge has identified opportunity to replace bridge structures at 2 sites that are reaching the end of service life span. At site 1 the project will replace the existing 18 ft x 18 ft bridge on 145th Ave SE over LaBelle Creek and at site 2 the project will replace the existing 23 ft x 24 ft bridge on 136th Ave SE over Wild Rice River. Both sites include removing the existing structure, installing a concrete box culvert, installing armoring, raising embankment construction, widening and gravel resurfacing the existing roadway approaches. The project is divided into a Schedule A and Option X .
Schedule A is 145th Ave SE, LaBelle Creek. Proposed structure double 12’W x 10’H. Precast Concrete Box Culvert with precast Double 12’W x 10’H RCBC end sections. The existing bridge and channel have been removed and widened by the maintaining ditch company. The existing road has been removed and will be replaced as part of the installation of the proposed structure.
Option X is 136th Ave SE, Wild Rice River. Proposed structure double 12’W x 10’H. Precast Concrete Box Culvert with precast Double 12’W x 10’H RCBC end sections.
The existing bridge and abutments are still in place and require removal as part of this project. This project includes impacts to wetlands, but the impacts are estimated to be less than 0.1 Acres.
SCOPE OF THE WORK: The scope of the project is for the replacement of structures across Labelle Creek. The work consists of placing 2 reinforced concrete box culverts including installing concrete box culverts, headwalls, wingwalls, installing armoring, grade raise, embankment construction, widening, signing, gravel resurfacing, revegetation of approximately 1500 ft of roadway approaches.
