Description
1.0 Scope of Work
The objective is to procure pure, live, native, South Willamette Valley Roemer’s fescue and Friends of Buford Park California oatgrass seed for restoration of disturbed dry sites affected by recent wildfires and other activities.
2.0 Background
Forest service policy states that native, locally adapted seed should be used to restore disturbed areas. Fire suppression repair, post-fire infrastructure repair, weed treatments in and near burned stands, and danger tree mitigation activities result in bare ground which must be seeded with native species to minimize the establishment of invasive species. Native dry site grass species, along with native forbs, help stabilize soil and fill niches that would be susceptible to weed invasions. Wild seed collection is expensive and time-consuming, so to increase efficiency, farmers grow seeds descended from wild Willamette Valley plants for restoration on the National Forests.
3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks
Required Minimum Pure Live Seed (PLS) as determined by State Certification:
>80% viability (tetrazolium test); <0.00% noxious weed seeds; <0.05% other non-native seeds; <20% inert material.
