Description

FMCSA has a requirement for lidar devices capable of measuring and reporting vehicle speed, velocity and distance, including providing measurements of the distance or time between two vehicles sufficient for the enforcement of “following too closely” violations. It also has a requirement for training, calibration, and warranty services related to the use and implementation of said devices.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

To assess whether further evidence can be generated supporting the use of lidar devices for enforcement of following too closely violations, FMCSA intends to acquire a sufficient number of camera-equipped lidar devices with headway gap measurement capability to make them widely available to enforcement officials serving with the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division and Motor Carrier Safety Division of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

SCOPE

The Contractor shall provide all personnel, equipment, supplies, facilities, transportation, tools, materials, supervision, and other items and non-personal services necessary to conduct the work and provide the items and services described in the remainder of this document. This performance work statement details an acquisition requirement concerning lidar devices, as well as associated needs for both warranty and calibration services in addition to training on the use of the devices for the officers who will use them.
