Description
CA FTNP MOJA 12(1) CIMA ROAD
The Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA-CFLHD), in coordination with the National Park Service, Mojave National Preserve, is proposing improvements to approximately 17.1 miles of Cima Road in San Bernardino County, California. The project also includes installation of low water crossings/shoulder stabilization areas along Cima Road with spot locations on Kelbaker Road, Lanfair Road, and Cedar Canyon Road. The project is located in a remote area approximately 75 miles from Las Vegas, NV, the closest major metropolitan area.
The Cima Road improvements consist of full depth reclamation of the existing pavement with placement of new asphalt pavement, increasing the roadway width to a consistent 26 feet, minor horizontal/vertical roadway realignment in select areas, reinforcing low water crossings, and improving safety with longitudinal and transverse rumble strips, signing, pavement markings, and paved pullouts. Low water crossings typically consist of buried concrete barriers with rip rap revetment.
The Kelbaker Road improvements consist of a rip rap shoulder stabilization area and four shoulder asphalt patching locations. Lanfair and Cedar Canyon Roads consist of two low water crossings and a roadway slope stabilization area.
Construction duration is estimated at 12-18 months.
The work is occurring in a natural resource sensitive area and there are environmental constraints that will affect the construction schedule and type of operations.
