The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) located in Washington, DC is in need of a Tensile Tester and PPS Roughness Tester.  The Tensile Tester is required to perform the tensile test suitable for testing tensile strength of film, sheet, paper, paperboard, etc.  The BEP requires the equipment to perform tensile strength testing for papers that are frequently handled such as currency (bank note) paper, non-distinctive banknote paper and miscellaneous materials.  The Tensile Strength Test is performed according to TAPPI method T 494.  Tensile Strength is the maximum load that a material can support without fracture when being stretched, divided by the original cross-sectional area of the material.

PPS Roughness Tester Equipment is required to perform PPS Roughness testing for papers that are frequently handled such as currency, currency paper, non-distinctive banknote paper and miscellaneous materials.  Additionally, the TAPPI T 555 Parker-surf method measures the roughness of paper and paper board under conditions intended to simulate the nip pressures and backing substrates found in printing processes.  The measuring principle is that of determining the resistance to flow or air between the test surface and a metal band in contact with it.

BEP is looking for contractor’s that supply both the Tensile Tester and PPS Roughness Tester.  However, if BEP cannot find a vendor that can supply both pieces of equipment BEP will consider issuing separate awards.
