Description

3D FRESHWATER MUSSEL-National Conservation, WV
The Department of Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service intends to award on a single source basis to the Florida Museum of Natural History 1659 Museum Rd, Gainesville, FL for a digital database of 3D reconstructions of fresh water mussels for FWS National Conservation Training Center, Shepherdstown, WV
The Florida Museum of Natural History (UF) is working with the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) and Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) to develop a taxonomically comprehensive database of digital and printable 3D reconstructions of the freshwater mussels of the United States.
Printed mussels can be used for training and as education and outreach tools for the general public. For Threatened and Endangered species, which by definition are uncommon and difficult to find or require permitting and paperwork to transport, these printed replicas will substantially improve access to materials. The printed life size and colored shell replicas will provide opportunities for hands-on education that might not otherwise be available. This resource will be designed to enhance research, training, outreach, and education across the country. This project will result in a digital database of 3D reconstructions of all freshwater mussels (Unionidae and Margaritiferidae) native to the United States. These digital 3D reconstructions can easily be converted into life-sized and realistically-colored replicas using a 3D printer.
The NAICS code is 541714, Research an d Development in Biotechnology
The proposed acquisition action is for items and services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1 (b).

This is not a solicitation; however, firms with expressed interest, capability and expertise required may respond. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement in the future.
