INDUSTRY DAY ANNOUNCEMENT

Cold Weather and Extreme Cold Weather Ground Insulator/Sleeping Mat Industry Day

Program Manager Soldier Clothing & Individual Equipment (PdM SCIE), Tactical Soldier Mobility Team, will host an Industry Day for manufacturers interested in and capable of manufacturing Ground Insulating sleeping mat materials and end items for use in Cold Weather and Extreme Cold Weather environments.  The event will take place on Fort Belvoir on 4 May 2023 and will discuss the technical requirements. Due to meeting space and time constraints, attendance is limited solely to interested Berry Compliant material and end item suppliers/contractors. Suppliers/contractors are limited to no more than two (2) individuals per company.  To coordinate appropriate space, please contact Robert Drown, robert.e.drown.civ@army.mil or Austin Myhre, austin.j.myhre.ctr@army.mil, to indicate your attendance. If you would like to reserve a time slot for one-on-one time with the Assistant Product Manager or the engineer, please include this with your response.

Please submit responses via email no later than COB 27 April 2023. Information requested for responses: company name & address, names & titles of company representatives to attend.  Time slot availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Preliminary Attributes for the Extreme Cold Weather Ground Insulator/Sleeping Mat:

  1. Durability; 
  2. Flexibility in extreme cold weather conditions (-65°F) 
  3. Fast drying; 
  4. Waterproof or highly water resistant  
  5. Breathable; 
  6. Launderable 
  7. Sized for the 5-95% of Soldiers  
  8. Current mat is a 3 R-Value, make the replacement mat threshold a 6 R-Value
  9. Packable for static-line Airborne and Free fall Operations  
  10. When used with sleep systems, will not compress or deflate after a minimum of 4-hour use and will provide equal or greater comfort than the current ground Insulator/sleeping mat.  
  11. Weighs less than the current SGI,2 lbs.   
  12. Is made of a materiel that permits the SGI to be easily prepared for (or removed from) a storage configuration in Climatic Zones VI and VII.  
  13. Is flame resistant
