Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, has a requirement for construction of pumping systems capable of preventing flooding of galleries at Monongahela River Locks and Dam 2 (Braddock Locks and Dam), under normal upstream pool levels. The pumping systems consist of three Government-furnished pump stations and piping. The major features of work are 1) Mechanical, Electrical and Structural Demolition and Disposal (a) Removal of abandoned hydraulic piping and valves and disposal of oil. Removal of unused electrical and existing ladder wrungs. 2) Concrete Work consisting of fill of hydraulic pit for pump station install (a) Removal of section of jib crane pad on landwall. 3) Delivery of Government-furnished equipment to Braddock Locks and Dam (a) Three self-priming pump stations, enclosure, controls and spares. 4) Installation and modification of miscellaneous existing features (a) Metal screening over wet wells and modification of hatch covers and lower approach grating. 5) Installation of pump suction and discharge piping, appurtances, electrical and all controls. Typical pool elevations at Monongahela Locks and Dam 2, where work will be performed, are 718.7 upstream and 710.2 downstream (all elevations are based on the NGVD 88 datum). Debris and rubbish shall be disposed of at a properly permitted facility licensed to accept waste or recyclable materials, as applicable. Construction work will occur in close proximity to waterway traffic. The anticipated work schedule is to be 270 days from notice to proceed.
