SCOPE OF WORK
The goal of this project is to install a new irrigation pump that serves our north pastures at Eightmile Ranch on the Methow Valley Ranger District in Winthrop, Washington. Specific objectives are to have a contractor furnish a new submersible pump, pipe, control panel, materials, supplies and equipment for the replacement, provide all labor to complete the project including installation of pump and electrical control panel, and remove the old submersible pump and any unusable or damaged materials. Do not remove the surface booster pump, as it will be reutilized at an adjacent site. Completed project will function to provide adequate flow to simultaneously operate two wheel lines and buckner riser sprinklers as outlined in the Project Background.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Eightmile Ranch is located on the Methow Valley Ranger District, on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Winthrop, Washington. Eightmile Ranch provides irrigated pastures that support our herd of 22 Forest Service horses and mules. We have 4 irrigated pastures, served by a north and south well. Each well operates two 6” irrigation wheel lines. The north well involved in this project provides water to approximately 25-acres of pasture with one 650ft wheel line, one 600ft wheel line, and 20 buckner riser sprinklers. In 2023, our submersible pump in the north well (Well Tag ID #AKW708) failed, and we were unable to irrigate our two north pastures. The original pump systems were installed around 2001 at Eightmile Ranch. The original pump system consisted of a small submersible pump and a large surface pump that provided enough pressure for the two irrigation wheel lines and a field of buckner riser sprinklers served by the pump. The objective is to install a replacement submersible pump in the well that eliminates the need for the secondary surface pump.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS / PROJECT TASKS
The North well pump is currently out of order. The old submersible pump and piping have been removed and a replacement system is needed to resume irrigation. The well ID tag is #AKW708 and is 93 feet deep. This well provides water to approximately 25-acres of pasture with one 650ft wheel line, one 600ft wheel line, and 20 buckner riser sprinklers. The wheel-line connections to the water main are at locations up to 1500ft from the well and are within 25ft of elevation gain. Completed project will function to provide maximum flow to simultaneously operate two-wheel lines and buckner riser sprinklers.
PROJECT TASKS
- Assess and research best installation options, products, and techniques for pump replacement based off of provided descriptions, irrigation needs, attached photos, well ID tag, and optional site visit to be coordinated by COR or Technical Contact. Mobilize to work site with adequate supplies, machinery, tools, and personnel to complete the project;
- Install a submersible pump system which will fulfil flow needs, that does not require a booster top pump. Install all necessary control panel equipment including electrical components to existing electrical infrastructure; and
- Remove the old submersible pump and any unusable or damaged materials. Contractor is responsible for disposal of any removed materials.
