Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source contract to
Illumina Inc.
5200 Illumina Way
San Diego
CA 92122-4616
This sole source award will be for Illumina MiSeq Reagent Kit V3 (600 cycle) used for whole genome sequencing on Illumina Miseq instruments.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a requirement for DNA sequencing supplies to support surveillance, outbreak and research activities for strain characterization in the Streptococcus Laboratory. Continuous and timely sharing of high-quality data is critical to support reference and surveillance to understand the epidemiology of streptococcal pathogens to inform vaccine strategies. NCIRD/DBD/RDB StrepLab processes thousands of bacterial isolates for strain characterization of the 3 major streptococcal pathogens (Streptococcus pneumoniae, group A and group B Streptococcus). Obtaining whole genome sequences of sufficient quality and length are essential for strain characterization. his particular product supports these objectives.
Illumina Miseq 600-cycle V3 kits are compatible with the required genome sequence coverage requirements for CDC's streptococcal pathogens that include increased cluster density and read length, improving sequencing quality scores. In addition, the Illumina Miseq sequencing instrument is the only option that is compatible with library kits available from Illumina. The MiSeq instruments are currently the only platform in the laboratory for whole genome sequencing for strain characterization.
There are no other products available that meet CDC's sequence specifications, and Illumina is the only vendor that provides Miseq 600-cycle V3 kits compatible with the MiSeq sequencing instruments.
This contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). Illumina Inc. is the only source capable of fulfilling this requirement. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals.
This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations / responses received within fifteen (15) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
