Description

Thermotron chambers use the same control system. A
temperature conditioning profile created on a Thermotron
controller at one facility at NSWC IHD can immediately be
transferred via digital media to another Thermotron chamber
in another facility or department should one complex lose
power or become unusable. Having the same controller allows
the immediate continuation of testing. If an excessive
lapse in conditioning occurs, the entire test sequence can
become invalidated which results in tens of thousands of
dollars lost in man hours per event. Operational efficiency
is maintained by the interoperability of the systems.
Thermotron controllers can be interchanged between systems
when necessary, in order to mitigate maintenance, other
operational issues, and eliminate down time. Profiles can
be transferred between systems because the same software is
utilized for all the Thermotron systems. Measured data can
be transferred between systems, as well, allowing for data
aggregation and analysis. System continuity also allows for
a single set of hardware to be maintained for all systems.
Using non-Thermotron test chambers will impact the ability
for NAVSEA warfare centers to achieve savings when testing
is transferred from one site to another. With a non-
Thermotron Chamber, NSWC IHD will have to devote 27 to 36
hours preparing for each test, rather than using the shared
test control parameters developed at another site. The
expected savings will be between $5,000 and $7,000 per test
at the current stabilized rate. It would also cause schedule
delays which will negatively impact the test lab and
mission. Cost savings is unquantifiable due to no
interest/no response to the Intent to Sole Source and
Synopsis posted on SAM.GOV to determine costs for other
possible vendors or equipment.
