Description

Description Service Deliverables: The selected provider is expected to deliver the following key deliverables: a. In person Canine Assisted Spiritual Care services with Veterans. b. BASE YEAR ONLY: A minimum of two (2) canine therapy units for each resident ward, per month.   A 4-hour block is equal to one (1) unit. Scheduling will need to be flexible on weeks with federal holidays; Sundays may be utilized, if needed. c. OPTION YEARS 1-4: A minimum of one (1) canine therapy unit for each resident ward, per week.   A 4-hour block is equal to one (1) unit. Scheduling will need to be flexible on weeks with federal holidays; Sundays may be utilized, if needed. d. The Canine Assisted Spiritual Care provider will work alongside Chaplain Service to develop the most comprehensive plan of care for each individual Veteran and coordinate efforts between healthcare teams, Veterans, and caretakers. e. Regular documentation and reporting of all Canine Assisted Spiritual Care sessions to Chaplain Service at the Saint Cloud VA Healthcare System, in terms of patient progress, care plans, and recommendations. Chaplain Service will provide documentation forms. f. Quarterly attendance at Monthly Chaplain Meeting. This meeting will be included in a four-hour unit. Service Availability: a. The provider must be able to provide services during the hours of (Mon-Fri, 0730-1630) at the Saint Cloud VA Healthcare System. b. Chaplain Service may request additional services on Sundays; the provider may decline if not available. d. Compliance with VA Directives: 1178(1) Animal Assisted Activities and Animal Assisted Therapy and 1188(1) Animals on Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Property. The provider will be required to document and report metrics to Chaplain Service at the Saint Cloud VA Healthcare System. Metrics will include: a. The number of Canine Assisted Spiritual Care sessions performed within the specified timeframe. b. The corresponding patient satisfaction scores for each session. c. Veteran requests for follow up sessions. d. A summary report at the end of each calendar year.
