Description
The Senior Advisor will be an essential member of the USAID/Botswana Health Team based in Gaborone. The incumbent will maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in HIV/AIDS, especially with respect to prevention for AGYW and other youth in Botswana. The Senior Advisor will provide technical and programmatic leadership for strategy development, project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of cohesive country-specific strategies across Botswana that assists teams to achieve maximum results related to PEPFAR targets for HIV and AIDS pertaining to adolescent and youth programming with special emphasis on programs for AGYW and other youth. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert in the HIV team for all matters related to AYP including strategic information. The incumbent’s work includes a variety of research, writing cables and memos, reporting, external collaborations, monitoring, and analytical duties, as well as cultivating and documenting best practices, and disseminating and developing and nurturing a community of practice in the Mission.
The Advisor maintains highly collaborative interagency relationships. The incumbent plays a leadership role within the PEPFAR technical working groups, playing a key role in the development of annual and long-term strategies for preventing HIV among adolescents and youth with special emphasis on AGYW. The incumbent represents USAID within multiple GOB and donor technical working groups and maintains collaborative working relationships with mid-to-senior level government officials in the GOB, donors, USG agencies and non-governmental organizations. This requires sound judgment, diplomacy, and tact in negotiating and working closely with the GOB and other stakeholders, and in the provision of ongoing guidance to implementing partners on adolescent health strategic direction and activities. Finally, the Advisor spends a significant amount of his/her time ensuring skills transfer and mentoring of USAID and GOB staff on data informed and data driven adolescent and youth programming.
The Senior Advisor will work closely with the various GoB ministries including Ministry of Health, Ministry of Basic Education, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency, UN Family, Civil Society Organizations, and other national stakeholder groups on AYP to promote the work of USAID/Botswana as it pertains to AYP.
