Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the nation’s leading medical research agency and the primary Federal agency whose mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge. The mission of the NIH also includes enhancing health, lengthening life, reducing illness and disability, conducting, supporting, and making medical discoveries that improves and saves people’s health and lives.
To establish and move stem cell technologies forward through a more centralized effort, NIH has launched the Stem Cell Translation Laboratory (SCTL) within NCATS. Part of the NIH Common Fund’s, the goal of the SCTL is to bring iPSC technology closer to clinical application, drug discovery and regenerative medicine. Through SCTL, NCATS will provide researchers across various disciplines and organizations with the ability to establish collaborations to advance the translation of regenerative medicine applications. This instrument will be used upon routine iPSC maintenance and differentiation culture to measure cell viability and immunophenotypes. This is a required instrument in cell culture labs as it provides precise information about the health, number of cells, and immunophenotypes of the cells being cultured by a biologist, while removing inter-operator variability that happens when counting manually. The equipment will be used routinely for internal and external collaborations. It will help us to perform the experiments in a steady and fast-paced manner.
