PROJECT NUMBER: CA FTNP SEKI 13(2)

PROJECT NAME: MINERAL KING ROAD

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 

The project proposes to rehabilitate up to 15.20 miles of Mineral King Road located within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park (SEKI).  The project is located east of Visalia in Tulare County, CA.

SCOPE OF THE WORK: 

The scope includes pulverization of the existing pavement, aggregate base placement, and asphalt paving of the roadway.  Parking lots will be rehabilitated or paved to improve visitor access.  Soldier pile walls, soil nail walls, and areas of special rock embankment will be constructed throughout the project to stabilize the roadway.  The project also includes drainage improvements such as ditch paving and grading, inlet installation, culvert replacement, and inlet and outlet protection measures.   

The Mineral King Road Project is in remote mountainous terrain with areas of limited roadway bench width.  Public access will have to be maintained during construction with intermittent allowable closures depending on season and time.  The road is inaccessible during winter due to extreme weather and snowpack.  The project is in an environmentally sensitive resource area within the National Park Service.
