National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)

The Federal Bureau of Investigation  Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)  ensures national security and public safety by providing the timely determination of a person's eligibility to possess firearms or explosives in accordance with federal law.   

In accordance with FAR 7.107-5, the Government intends to consolidate five contracts for administrative and professional support services being performed by large businesses and small businesses. The consolidated effort shall be solicited as a socioeconomic set aside as determined within the Acquisition Strategy and the full strategy will be disclosed upon release of the solicitation to avoid competitive advantage. The consolidation of the five contracts is in the best interest of the Government. This consolidation meets the requirements of FAR 7.107 and the benefits of the consolidated acquisition would substantially exceed the benefits that would be derived from an alternative approach. Therefore, the Government found that consolidation is necessary and justified and shall be available for seven days prior to the release of the solicitation for this requirement. The solicitation is anticipated for release on or around 23 June 2023.
