Description

The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that may possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet the requirements for qualification and repair of the F-16 Hydrive for use by the U.S. Air Force. If after reviewing the requirement, you desire to participate in the RFI, you should provide documentation that supports your company’s capability in meeting these requirements. If you lack sufficient experience/capabilities in a particular area, please provide details explaining how you would overcome the lack of experience/capabilities in order to perform that portion of the requirement.

NSN 1005- 01-061-8335, P/N is 217F429, and Repair Method Code (RMC) is R2.

Current source is ELBITAMERICA INC.

The Government does not own any data, drawings, schematics, or any other releasable technical data in support of this requirement. The original equipment supplier for this item is General Dynamics-OTS, INC. (CAGE 05606), which maintains its configuration by part number and software version. This item is controlled by a General Dynamics Source Control drawing. This item requires engineering source approval General Dynamics in order to maintain the configuration and quality of fielded 20mm F-16 HyDrive. Potential manufacturers are required to receive General Dynamic’s approval to be added to the Source Control drawing. Currently, Eaton’s proprietary design is the only approved F-16 HyDrive. Eaton manufactures the repair kits required for repair of the F-16 HyDrive.

PURPOSE/DESCRIPTION

The Government is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet requirements for qualification and production of the M61A1 20MM Hydraulic Drive:

NOUN: F-16 Hydraulic Drive Unit

NSN: 1005- 01-061-8335

P/N: 217F429

This requirement is for repair services. Our repair services strategy is a five-year contract (basic plus four option years). The projected quantities will range from 1- 30 each during the basic year and Best Estimated Quantities (BEQ) from 1-20 each for the four options. Quantities are subject to change.

The M61A1 20mm Hydraulic Drive (HyDrive) consists of a control valve and a motor. The control valve uses solenoid operated pilot valves to actuate the motor control spool which in turn regulates flow at both the inlet and outlet of the motor. This then provides the mechanical power to operate the 20mm Gatling gun on the F-16 aircraft. This item must operate without leakage of hydraulic fluid or anything that will cause insufficient pressure to drive the gun system to the required 6000 rounds per minute rate of fire. The HyDrive operates in an environment that experiences high vibration, temperature variations from sea level to high altitude, and very high acceleration “G” forces. Failure of the HyDrive will result in gun failure.
