Description
1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to renew interior deck coverings with a polymeric deck covering system (MIL-PRF-24613, Type III, Epoxy).
3.1 General.
3.1.1 CIR.
None.
3.1.2 Technical Representative.
Not applicable.
3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor shall furnish and install all protective coverings to seal off and protect all non-affected vessel's components, equipment, and spaces near the work area against contamination during the performance of work. Upon completion of work, the Contractor shall remove all installed protective measures, inspect for the presence of contamination, and return all contaminated equipment, components, and spaces to original condition of cleanliness.
3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor shall handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences).
3.2 Deck covering replacement. Follow all general deck covering and fire prevention requirements stated in SFLC Std Spec 6341.

3.2.2 Surfaces shall be completely free of corrosion products, mill scale, dirt, oil, grease, moisture, deteriorated paint, and other surface contaminants.
3.2.2.1 Ultrasonic thickness measurement. Prior to priming deck surfaces, in the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, perform a UT inspection of the affected plating in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740, to determine the plate thickness (one shot per square foot). Chalk out the boundary of the corroded plating where the remaining thicknesses are less than 75% of the original thickness as shown on applicable Coast Guard Drawings. See Figure “Minimum Allowable Plating Thickness” below for guidance. Submit a Condition Found Report to the Coast Guard Inspector.
3.2.3 Apply appropriate deck covering system primer coat in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310 and manufacturer’s instructions.
3.2.4 Install underlay material in the work areas conforming to MIL-PRF-3135 in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341 and Manufacturer’s Instruction. Underlay material shall be compatible with the deck covering system being installed. For bidding purposes, the Contractor shall provide twice the required amount of underlay material to do the work.
3.2.5 Install polymeric deck covering system in the work areas in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341. Polymeric system shall conform to MIL-PRF-24613, Type III, Epoxy Color shall be chosen by the cutter, here are some choices: http://www.hitechflooring.com/epoxy_flooring_colors.shtml.
3.2.6 Thoroughly seal the deck covering system with two coats of sealer, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
NOTE
Install sealer coats as thin as possible while still coating the entire surface so that a slip resistant orange peel effect is present on the finished deck.
3.2.7 Caulk all edges of decking after poured deck covering has cured to prevent water intrusion under deck.
3.3 Touch-up preservation. The Contractor shall prepare and coat all new and disturbed exterior and interior surfaces to match existing adjacent surfaces, in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310. Abide by all touch-up requirements outlined in SFLC Std Spec 63104. NOTES
3.4 Period of Performance.
3.4.1 Work to be completed at Mare Island Dry Dock facility, located at 1180 Nimitz Ave, Vallejo, CA 94592 between 5/1/2023 – 8/1/2023.
