Description
Project Details: WY FLAP JOH 14(1) North Fork Crazy Woman Creek Bridge
The Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and Johnson County, Wyoming, is proposing to replace the existing bridge structure on Crazy Woman Canyon Road/Route 33. The project road is classified as a rural recreational local road and is in mountainous terrain. The project scope includes the replacement of North Fork Crazy Woman Creek Bridge on Crazy Woman Canyon Road/Route 33, reconstruction of the roadway approaches on both ends of the bridge, object markers installed on the four corners of the bridge, and pullout improvements. The project consists of replacing an existing bridge structure on Route 33/Crazy Woman Canyon Road. The roadway portion will consist of aggregate surface course approaches required for raising the existing profile as well as reconditioning of a pull-off area near the bridge. The existing bridge removal will include existing superstructure and partial demolition of concrete caps (enough to allow new girder clearance). The proposed structure is a 14 feet wide and 51 feet long (out-out abutment) single span structure, leaving existing concrete/grouted riprap embankments in place and building new concrete caps directly behind existing caps after squaring off existing skew. The prefabricated bridge consists of rolled girders and structural steel decking with gravel deck surface similar to the approaches. New abutments are cast-in-place concrete caps and wingwalls supported by micropile foundations, no additional scour protection is assumed to be required with existing rock grouted embankments.
A temporary bridge or diversion is not required; however, the existing bridge to be replaced is load rated:
- 2-3 Axles: 11T
- 4-5 Axles: 12T
- 6+ Axles: 13T
- Semi-Truck: 20T
- Tandem: 21T
Route 33/ Crazy Woman Canyon Road is geometrically tight west of the bridge location, it is not considered feasible to enter the project site from US-16.
