Description

See Statement of Work for further details.

The Advanced Photon Source Upgrade Project (APSU) is planning a storage-ring upgrade that will reduce the electron-beam emittance by a factor of ~75. This ultra-low emittance is achieved by replacing the present storage ring lattice with a multi-bend achromat (MBA) lattice.

The APS-U storage ring a contains vacuum system that shall operates at ultra-high vacuum (UHV) pressures near 10-9 torr. The vacuum system will require an in-situ ‘bake’ of all vacuum chambers to temperatures up to 180 C in order to purge internal gases. The bake will be performed in-situ using a variety of electrical heaters powered by temperature regulated power distribution carts as diagrammed in Figure 1.2. The heaters, power distribution carts and the temperature control carts are not part of this SOW scope.

There is a total of (46) individual heater circuits per sector that are energized simultaneously for a complete bake-out.  These circuits are categorized into a family of nine (9) unique types of wiring Kits, with each Kit consisting of a number of individual Bundles of similar wiring contents.  Each bundle will provide the connections for one branch circuit.  Each branch circuit layout is in either a single, series, or parallel configuration, as to balance the electrical load of the electrical heaters between each circuit.

       1.Material Requirements

The following are requirements for the material specified in the kitted bundles. If there are supply chain issues with any of the following materials the contractor can propose alternative equivalents for APSU approval.

      2. Wire Requirements

The following are requirements for the wires specified in the kitted bundles.

      3. Power, Neutral, and Ground Wire

  • Size
The wire for the bundles shall be #14 AWG / 19 strand count wire conductor.
  • Sheathing Insulation Requirements

The sheathing shall conform to MIL-W-22759/16 for sufficient radiation resistance for the life expectancy of the Storage Ring. The sheathing shall be constructed of ETFE (ethylene-tetraflouroethylene).

  • Color

The colors of the wire shall be designated:

               Neutral - White

               Phase / Line – Blue

               Ground – Green

Thermocouple Wire

  • Size

The thermocouple wire for the bundles shall be Type K Duplex Thermocouple Wire, 20 AWG solid.

  • Sheathing Insulation Requirements

The sheathing shall conform to MIL-W-22759/16 for sufficient radiation resistance for the life expectancy of the Storage Ring. The sheathing shall be constructed of ETFE (ethylene-tetraflouroethylene).

        4.Connectors

  • Power Plugs
The three blade power plug shall be equivalent to Hubbell #HBL5366C 3-Blade Straight Plug, Grounded, NEMA 5-20

Thermocouple connector
The thermocouple connector shall be equivalent to McMaster #3869K25 Thermocouple Connector, Round-Pin Male, Screw Terminal, Type K, 400°F Maximum

       5. Flexible Metal Conduit and Adapters

  • Flexible Metal Conduit
The flexible metal conduit shall be equivalent to McMaster #74115K2 Flexible Metal Conduit, Flexible Zinc-Plated Steel, 3/8 Trade Size
