Description
The U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) requires the services for data and sample collection and laboratory testing of malaria and leishmaniasis in Brazil.
General requirements: The department has a critical need to execute surveillance activities in Brazil. Accomplishing this activity requires in-depth knowledge an on-site facilities and expertise in the endemic sites to ensure that the Department gets the most accurate information of emerging disease threats.
These activities will be funded by FY22 Parasitology funds. The services are needed for achieving our surveillance objectives for this fiscal year and to increase our throughput. This will support both currently funded objectives as well as enable acquisition of future funding.
In summary:
- NAMRU-6 conducts surveillance of tropical parasitic diseases in different countries including Brazil.
- Surveillance in Brazil requires onsite facilities, expertise and knowledge of the regulatory processes in the country.
- This purchase covers the services of an onsite institution in Brazil that can provide the deliverables specified on the PWS.
- This service will allow us to have access to epidemiological, laboratory and clinical data that will be reported to DHA-GEIS and will in turn support application for future funding.
- We have chosen direct purchase from FUNDEP to ensure the quality of the requested service.
- We already have experience using the services from FUNDEP and they have met the government’s requirements.
